ESCAPE: The SUB C Paranormal Thriller Series Book One By Ray Ronan
Genre: Fiction

The adventure starts on October 16th!
Hey, that's today! ;-)

This was my first time reading one of Ray Ronan's stories.  Ronan's been writing for a few years, mostly as a co-author in the genres of Thrillers, Nonfiction, Paranormal. For this series of books, he's writing on his own, and has at least five in the works.  This is a paranormal thriller.

This book is not a full-sized novel, yet not as small as a novella.  Personally, I think it's a good size for a thriller series.  I enjoyed this book a lot. I like to read so I can relax before going to sleep.  Usually I get in a chapter or two before I start taking long blinks, but I found myself wanting to read 'just one more chapter' of this one... and then it was 1:30am.

The book starts off full-tilt, and keeps the pace throughout the story.  The author introduces the characters well, and does a great job in keeping the reader involved.  Both Michael and Natalie's characters are thoughtfully developed.  The antagonists have definite personalities, and the minor characters aren't just in the background. The plot is clear-cut, and you feel like you can empathize with the characters and what they're going through. You even feel like you could reach over and pet Rip, the dog. The story is short and to the point, without a whole bunch of 'other stuff' filling up the pages.  I like that.

I think Ronan's writing style is very smooth.  You don't feel like you're getting an over abundance of adjectives, yet the scenes are described so well you can easily picture them.

My only issue with the book was the last chapter.  Not the ending, but how the chapter was written.  The pace was off.  I felt lost. It didn't feel like Ronan was writing it still.  I don't know, maybe it's just me.  It doesn't change my opinion of the book, however, or the fact that I want to keep reading the series.

For me, a book that I think about during the times I'm not reading it, is a good book.  And that's exactly what Escape did.  I couldn't wait to get back to the book.  I look forward to the next installment in the Sub C series.
