November Holidays & the Bizarre
  • Just so you know, today is "Sandwich Day".
  • On this day in 1983 "Islands In The Stream" by Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton was the #1 song.
  • On November 3, 1911, Louis Chevrolet and William C. Durant founded the Chevrolet Motor Car Company and entered the automobile market in competition with the Ford Model T.
  • On November 3, 1913…The United States initiated an income tax.
Everyone needs something to look forward to. Even if it is "National Cheesecake Day". ;-)
Each day I post on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram about what wacky day it is, the day's famous birthdays, what happened on this Day, the #1 hit song, etc.  Follow me on these social media if you'd like to know things like that today is Sandwich Day!

November Birth Flowers or Flowers of the Month, are the flowers that traditionally symbolize the month of someone's birth. For November, the most commonly recognized Birth Flower is the Chrysanthemum also referred to as Mums.  Chrysanthemums (mums) symbolize cheerfulness, happiness and abundance. A red chrysanthemum symbolizes true love, a white chrysanthemum symbolizes innocence, purity, and honesty, a yellow chrysanthemum symbolizes a slighted love or wounded heart.

There are way too many monthly observances for November to list. It's just outrageous. But, here are a few of the not so known, and not so PC ones (I dislike politically correct):
    • Banana Pudding Lovers Month: Everyone has a favorite flavor, but this month is dedicated to banana pudding.
    • Adopt a Turkey Month: At Thanksgiving, some adopt a turkey instead of eating one.
    • Peanut Butter Lovers Month: What's your favorite peanut butter treat?
    • Manatee Awareness Month: Manatees were once a common oceanic sight, especially around the coast of Florida. Some sailors even thought shadows of swimming manatees were mermaids.
    • Georgia Pecan Month: Enjoy some delicious Georgia pecans this month.
    • National Impotency Month: During the month of november, it is time to raise awareness and acceptance of impotence and male infertility.
    • National Novel Writing Month: Also known as NaNoWriMo, many people take the month of November to sit down and write a novel. There are challenges and workshops set up all over the country to help writers meet their goal of 50,000 words by the end of the month.
    • No Shave November (Movember): Many men and women choose to shave their hair on various parts of their bodies, while others do not. During November, even people who regularly shave say "no thanks" and go the whole month without touching a razor, or only touching up a few areas.
