It works well, and sticks even on our bumpy dirt roads. You can mount this not only on a car windshield, but a dash, or even on your desk. The suction cup has a bit of stickiness, sort of like the old fashioned wetting to make it stick better. The clamp part holds my phone and my GPS securely. It the ball joint can rotate at virtually any angle which is convenient. The long arm holds your phone (or in my case, my GPS) closer to the driver, which is better.

I haven't had it long enough to know how long it will last, but at this time, I'm really impressed. Bye-bye old holder that kept falling off my windshield!
