The bugs have just started to come out for the season. Flies, mosquitoes, fruitflies, gnats, etc. You know, the pesky ones.

Living on a homestead, we're outside a lot! Mosquitoes are abundant. Insect bites are not only irritatingly itchy, but can also bring diseases.

I've tried dabbing essential oils on, but it doesn't give coverage, and carrier oils are too oily for my skin & stain clothes. I needed a natural alternative. I wanted something that wasn't just a can of harmful chemicals. I just want to keep the bugs away, not harm my family.

I chose to try this all-natural bug spray from Natural Citizen. This doesn't contain Deet, or anything else you can't pronounce. It only has purified water, soybean oil, essential oils, vanillin, citric acid, and xanthan gum in it. The essential oils in contains are cedar and lemongrass.

When developing this Deet-free bug spray, the company worked with a real entomologist to create it.

You spray your palms and then rub into exposed skin. You repeat every 4 hours, but not more than two applications in 24 hours. The lemongrass & cedar give off a strong scent, but it's nothing like Off, or anything like that. It doesn't burn or irritate, but it is a bit sticky.

So far, I'm liking this spray. We'll see when peak bug season comes.

Our formulation is made with real essential oils. It is not synthetic like the leading brands. We chose a special combination of oils, that according to research by the Center for Disease Control, are effective alternatives to products containing DEET.
