Gold Medal Wine Club 'Gold Series' Review

Gold Medal Wine Club sends small-production, award-winning wines right to your door every month. They have six different wine clubs to choose from, plus some add-on options.

If once a month wine delivery is too much, they offer bi-monthly & even quarterly. Going on an extended vacation? You can have your wine delivered to your vacation address! Need to temporarily pause your deliveries? You can do that too. Gold Medal Wine Club is very versatile with many options to choose from, including the variety of wine in each shipment. You can also send someone a gift.

We received a 'gift' shipment of the Gold Series Club to review. When you order someone a gift, their first shipment comes with a FREE Personalized Greeting Card and the wines are wrapped in Organza Cloth Gift Bags.

With the Gold Series series, you receive 2 (or more per your choice) hard-to-find wines from among California's best small wineries.

My box came with a very nice booklet that explains the company, the clubs, and their wines.

Along with your subscription, you also receive Wine Press. It's a small publication that highlights wineries, and winemakers. There is also recipes included that pair well with wine.

The two bottles we received were Windstream. A Chardonnay, and a Pinot Noir.

Windstream Cellars was originally introduced to the wine world through the Gold Medal Wine Club in 2010 due to the winery’s close association with Gold Medal throughout the years. While Windstream is almost embryonic in nature, its grapes have excellent pedigrees that insure good quality and depth.

Windstream Chardonnay
The Chardonnay was the first wine that we tried. The Windstream Cellars 2013 ‘Fog Queen Block’ Chardonnay was produced from a pair of vineyards in the Northern Monterey County AVA, the Loma Vista Vineyard and Sacramento Vineyard.

The cool, windy climate paired with the loamy sand soils of Northern Monterey creates a unique terrior that’s perfectly suited to Chardonnay.

The wine starts out sweet, and is not dry at all. It is a very nice wine. It is luscious and well-structured with aromas of bright tropical fruits and hints of vanilla and spice. The mouth-filling ripe flavors of pear and guava linger on the finish.

Mr. SnuggleBunny really likes this wine. We were very pleased with receiving this bottle. It is a very nice wine. This wine retails for $25. He said he would easily pay that for this wine.

Windstream Pinot Noir
Next we tried the Pinot Noir. This wine would be paired well with lasagna, or other italian dish. It counters the savory with sweet just right. This bottle retails for $40. Well worth it.

The maritime influence of the Pacific Ocean creates morning fog and afternoon winds, which is an ideal climate combination for the production of world-class Pinot Noir.

Traditional winemaking techniques were used to preserve the individual flavors (terrior) of each parcel of land. The Windstream 2013 ‘Fog King Block’ Pinot Noir is a rich and full-bodied wine with aromas of red berries, clove, and oak spice and ripe flavors of black cherry and raspberry. The mouthfeel is soft and round with a lingering finish.

The two bottles we received in the Gold Series club were excellent. The monthly cost of the Gold Series is $37. The value of this box was $65. If you like to try new highly rated wines from different wineries, you should definitely subscribe to Gold Medal Wine Club!
