Loot Crate January 2016 Subscription Box Review

This is the first Loot Crate box for me. I signed up for 3 months to get a taste of what all the hub-bub is all about. I had a pretty good coupon. Their coupons aren't spectacular, but it's better than nothing.

Loot Crate is one of the more popular, long-standing subscription boxes around. I just had to try it!

This month’s theme was Invasion. I think they nailed it!

Loot crate doesn't enclose an info card. Instead, they have a mini-mag. This month's is, "How to Survive an Alien Invasion". It's cute. A lot of work goes into curating these themes.

My box included 8 items including the bonus pin item:
  • Exclusive X-Files T-Shirt
  • Exclusive Plush FaceHugger
  • Exclusive Space Invaders Vinyl Figure
  • Exclusive Fifth Element Multi-Pass
  • Exclusive Mini Prints (2)
  • Exclusive X-Files Flashlight
  • The monthly pin, which also gets you an Exclusive January Letter 44 comic from ComiXology (online)
Notice a pattern? It's all exclusive!

Beginning in January 2016, Looters will see a new and improved collector pin in every crate! Each pin unlocks something epic, but you'll need to go to Lootcrate.com/pins to unlock the surprises!

This month is a free online comic from comiXology. Unfortunately due to my satellite internet, I cannot download things unless I go all the way to the city to the library (3hr round trip), so this one really is a fail for me. I hope they all aren't online comics.

The box comes packed well. The printing on the box is outstanding. I'll have to reuse this box for something! I have been reusing all my subscription boxes for organizing around the house. They are nice & sturdy. And this one is decorated to boot!

The first item is a Space Invaders vinyl. I love Space Invaders. It came out when I was a tween, and I used to go to the arcade & stay there for hours playing video games (and hanging out in the mall).

This is like a retro item for me. I got orange (different colors were sent out). I like orange! This is a cute item that will go on the shelf.

The X-Files flashlight is a nice, practical item. I really like that. Although vinyls and other 'toys' are cool to have, I really like practical items. Especially when they are themed. I wasn't the biggest X-Files fan, I saw a few episodes. But any fandom is cool with me.

With the X-Files being revamped & brought to life again, this is a great inclusion. You know what's impressive? They even threw in the batteries!

The next items in the box are two Mini prints. They are on nice card stock, and 5x7 I believe. I didn't measure them. LOL But, I like these classic titles, and they will get framed & hung.

The Multi-Pass replica from the Fifth Element is next in the box. I was kinda "Meh" about this until I realized I can swap out my own ID. I need to drive 3 miles to the mailbox & hate having to haul my wallet just to carry my driver's license with me, so I think I'll test this out. It's got a chain for around your neck.

If you've never seen the Fifth Element, first get your butt over to the store & buy it. Second, here's a pic from the movie using the multi-pass prop.

The T-shirt is an Exclusive, "The Day Has Come". I was a bit upset about the t-shirt sizing. I wear a women's large. I ordered the xl just in case. If it was too big, I could wear it as a lounging comfy shirt. Yeah, no dice. These are definitely junior sizes. This would barely fit my 12 year-old slim daughter! So, if you sign up, make sure you get at least 1 size bigger if you're a lady. But, otherwise, the shirt is cool. It's soft & looks like good quality. I wont really know until I wash it.

The last item in the box is an exclusive FaceHubber plush from Kidrobot. Also included was a mysterious yellow rubber band.

At first I was like, this is too cute to be considered a FaceHugger from aliens! And, it kinda looks like a dog toy.

But then, I checked out one of my favorite blogs, My Subscription Addiction, and they had posted this! OMG soooooo funny! This is what the large rubber band is for. Why, I do not know. But it makes for a good laugh! Oh yeah, you should check their blog out too.

Overall we like Loot Crate so far. It gave us a good variety of items along a theme. We'll see if they stay impressing us.

Loot Crate has a number of different "crates". This is the original Loot Crate. If you also join Pet Crate, it comes with a matching doggy shirt! If you order Level Up, it keeps with the same monthly theme as well.

Loot Firefly & Gaming are new and will be starting up soon. My son is interested in the gaming one. We'll see.
  • Loot Crate
  • Level Up Apparel
  • Loot Anime
  • Loot Gaming
  • Loot Pets
  • Loot Firefly
  • Loot Star Wars
  • Loot Call of Duty
  • Loot Gifts

February's box will include items from Deadpool and The Walking Dead, including 4 exclusives, and 2 figures. Are you excited?

Use coupon code LOOTR3 to save $3 off your first box!
