The Hippie Hobby January 2016 Subscription Box Review

This is our 3rd Hippie Hobby box. We love them! My daughter gets excited when she sees me bringing the green box in the door. The boxes come every other month. There crafts each month are very different. There's always something to like.

Hippie Hobby is a craft subscription box with a twist. It contains a mystery craft using recycled, up-cycled &  reusable materials. This month is a craft with used wine corks!

The box contents are always wrapped in green tissue paper & burlap ribbon. They stuff the box with newspaper shreds as packing material. This is a great choice for an environmentally conscious product.

Just about everything you need is always included in the box. The only items not included are things like mixing bowls, or paper towels, and other things you have on hand, that wouldn't make since to include.

January's project is an upcycled Wine Cork Heart.
  • The kit includes:
  • 21-22 Wine Corks
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • 2-3 Glue Sticks
  • Burlap Ribbon (see, reusing!)
  • Heart Template
You also need scissors that aren't included.
They included a heart template for the project. It helps to form the correct shape of the heart.

The instruction pamphlet included is well laid out with full-color pictures. The instructions are clear & easy to follow. It also gives you tips & optional instructions to make the project slightly different. I like that they include instructions instead of having to go online for them!

The box included enough wine corks for the project. The wine they came from gives them beautiful pink & red shades. Pretty. I like that so much better than using new corks.

This project doesn't take a lot of materials, and doesn't seem too difficult, but looks fun. My daughter has been begging to do it since we received  the box last night. She's almost 12, and definitely can do this on her own. However, it's not a kid's project.

We were both impressed that the box contained a glue gun & glue sticks. This is great because now my daughter will have her own glue gun & asking to use mine. ;-)

The glue gun doesn't say if it's a low-temp or high-temp gun.

The project also came with 3 glue sticks. This should be plenty to finish this project.

You can reuse the packaging burlap ribbon to place around your finished heart.

Hippie Hobby always includes a bonus craft. I love that!

This month, the bonus craft is Sugar Lip Scrub. They also include most of the items needed to complete the bonus crafts.

Included are:
  • Sugar in the Raw
  • Small Cosmetic Pot
  • Decorative Sticker
You will also need oil (Olive, Sunflower, or any you choose)

This project will also be fun for the girl (or me) to make.

You pretty much just add half the sugar to the pot, add 1/2 tsp of oil, and mix. Bing-bang-boom, you have a sugar lip scrub!

Two projects every two months using recycled, purposed, & reused materials.  What's not to love?!

I had a small issue that I need customer service to help with. Not only did they fix it impressively in quick order, they also sent this little thank you card in my box expressing their appologies. They really, truly care about their customers!

The Hippie Hobby also has a facebook page where they share other interesting projects, as well as a blog. You'll never run out of projects!

They work hard to curate these boxes, and are doing a great job!

This is an inexpensive way every couple months to sit, relax, and do a craft project without having to worry about gathering materials, or running to the store for supplies. Everything is packed for you with instructions, and what the finished project should look like. The projects aren't too difficult, but aren't too simple either, making them perfect for a wide age span.

As soon as the project is completed, I'll upload the  project review!
