Jade Canopy April Subscription Box Review

We were ecstatic to open the April Jade Canopy box. Getting ready for planting season!  April's theme is Showers & Flowers.  This was so fun to go through. It really got me geared up to start planting.... yes, I'm behind starting my indoor seeds. Again.

I mean, sure, you can buy your produce, but it's so much more rewarding to grow it, especially when you know what's in it. Save money and save your sanity.

Jade Canopy is a mother-daughter team specializing in gardening, created a subscription box that fulfills the needs of novice and experienced gardeners, as well as anyone who purely has a passion for gardening and nature.

April's box included:
  • Mixed Gladious bulbs
  • Rapitest PH Soil Test Kit
  • 2 packs Seeds: Eggplant & Casaba Melon
  • 8" Bypass Pruner
  • Compost Tea
The box comes with a beautifully printed pamphlet. It lists the items in the box, a "To-Do" list, a project, facts & words of wisdom, and what to plant in April. It also lists their donations & social media links.

The packing material of the box is moss!!! It is a bit messy, but it's moss... not paper!

The first two items in the box are pruning shears & a PH kit.

The rapitest PH Soil Tester is made by Luster Leaf.  It includes 10 tests inside. When you garden, you should check your PH regularly in fall & spring. With this, you test your soil in a chamber, using an enclosed capsule & water. You shake, let it settle, and compare the results.

It's May & I still have snow on the ground, so I haven't been able to use this yet.

The bypass pruning shears have no label.  They're not an overly sharp type, but they seem aligned well and are comfortable.  They have a locking latch and are spring loaded.

We received two packages of seeds & some bulbs for planting.

They included 3 Gladiolus bulbs. A mixed variety. You plant these in full sun, 3-4" deep, 6" apart. They get to be 2-4' in height.

The package of Golden Beauty Casaba Melon seeds has 100 seeds! 100. That's a lot.  The company is Seed Needs, and the package not only includes instructions for planting, but has a QR code to scan for additional information.  Harvest for these melons is about 100 days & enjoy full sun.

We also got a packet of Black Beauty Eggplant. Also from Seed Needs. This one contains 40 seeds, and harvest is in 75-80 days. Eggplant also like full sunlight.

The last item in the April box is 3 bags of compost tea.

These are for adding nutrients to your garden & plants. You place one bag into your watering can, and let steep overnight. Water your plants as usual the next day.  This can be used once a week.

It doesn't list the ingredients of this tea bag.

Overall, I think this box is great. With the pruner & ph tester, I'd say it's more for the beginner. Any seasoned gardener would already have these things. As for the seeds & bulbs. Everyone loves new ones to try...don't they?!

The pamphlet that is included lists some plants that are acidic, and ones that are more alkaline.  I like little tidbits of information like this.  I have more of a chance of learning this way, than if reading a large article or book.

Each subscription boxes will include each of the following :
  • Instructional Pieces: These will include month-by-month gardening to-do lists, as well as words of wisdom from their gardening master.
  • A Project: You’ll enjoy the ideas and products that they bring you to keep that gardening gear well-oiled, even when you fear that there's nothing to be done and you’re simply bored with the gardening process.
  • Seeds and Bulbs: From organic, heirloom, hard-to-find varieties, and everything in-between, they  have you covered.
  • Just for YOU: They also feature at least one bonus item in your box that will be sure to lift your spirits and motivate you to get gardening.

Yep, my daughter & I really loved this box! At $35 it's a little over our price range, but for the items you get in the box, plus all the information, I do believe the value is there & would recommend to anyone who is either just starting out with gardening, or is having problems getting theirs to grow.
