Braxton A. Cosby Double Book Review

I had the pleasure of reading two of Braxton A. Cosby's recent books.

I had never heard of Cosby before picking up these books. I have come to like him as a writer, and he will now be on my list of authors to read.

A little bit about the author....
Braxton A. Cosby is a dreamer with a passion for inspiring others to love, in spite of circumstance and convenience. His calling to pen a young-adult series that is smart, witty, and thought provoking, has challenged readers to answer the question: What would you choose, love or irrevocable duty? He is the CEO of the media production company Cosby Media Productions, Inc. where he develops content for film, television, music and print. Braxton lives in Atlanta, GA. He also has a blog where he discusses everything from health and entertainment to spirituality and relationships.  ~Goodreads

The first book I read was Supernova: Book 2 of The Star-Crossed Saga

Published by Cosby Media Productions
Published: June 28, 2015
Words: 80,270
Language: English
ISBN: 9781310041839

I have to admit, I did not read Braxton A. Cosby's debut Award-winning novel Protosta, the first book in this series. So, when I started this book, I was a bit lost. Really lost. But that's my own fault because this is a second book in a series. I will probably go back now and read the first book just to fill in the pieces.

This is a story of two star-crossed lovers. William and Sydney are the main characters and their  relation develops further in this second book. The book is slow to start, drawing you into the character's personal lives. About halfway through is when the storyline truly became engaging.

Don't be fooled, this is a Sci-fi book. War is being waged across the galaxy, and it's a thrilling adventure. As the plot progressed, it became easier to read. Oh, did I not mention that William comes from a different planet? ;-)

I like the premise of the book, and as I said, will probably go back & read book one just so that I can get the full effect of the series so far. Cosby has a way of drawing you into the characters quickly. Although I did find it hard to follow some of the dialogue. It seemed choppy, and like I was missing whole parts of conversations. It did not flow naturally.

The second book I read was The Sect: The Windgate (The School of Ministry #1)

Published by Cosby Media Productions
Published: March 13, 2015
Words: 99,220
Language: English
ISBN: 9781310307003

Before I start, let me say that honestly, this book wasn't my cup of tea. I'm not saying it wasn't a good book, it's actually a good story, and I might read the next installment. But this is more faith-based than I had originally thought; More of a Christian fantasy.

There have been a number of popular books & movies lately that follow this plotline. It's popular, and I find it interesting. It has you wondering what it would be like to live in a time like this.

The main character Ziv, is recruited by the secret society known as The Sect. He finds himself cast into a journey of love, identity, and hope. He attempts to make sense of both his love life and his true purpose. Ziv has special gifts. He possess the ability to see demons. The School of Ministry seeks him out, along with two others who have the same ability, and they work to banish demons from the world. This means going through a series of treacherous challenges first, which is where the main story takes place.

This is a story of survival, and for the older 'young adult' audience. It has love interests, and brings to the surface questions everyone deep down asks. Cosby is a very good storyteller, and provides great action throughout the novel. There are a lot of twists & turns, and I like that.
