Handmade Beauty Box DIY Delivered
January 2016 Subscription Box Review

Yay! Our new Handmade Beauty Box arrived today!

Let's see.... This is our 5th box. Three months of subscription boxes, and two past boxes from the shop. I think we like these guys.

This box looks fun! Mermaid Ombre soap. This is a melt & pour glycerin soap project.

Many, many eons ago I used to make melt & pour soap. I've been telling my daughter I'll teach her how for ever, but as usual, open-ended craft projects get put off. After we looked through the box, my daughter said, "When you write your review, tell them that we've been meaning to make soap for a looooong time, and this box will help us get started." ....ah, my beautiful almost 12yr old. ;-)

But she's right. With everything here, ready, all in one place, we'll actually do this project.

This box was heavy. It made me very curious as to the project. I love they suspense, so I don't look at the spoilers on their facebook page.

When you first open the box, it's quite a mystery. Lots & lots of paper crimps, and not much else.

After you remove all the paper, everything is packed nice & neatly.

The package comes with just about everything you need:
  • 2lb Melt & Pour Soap Base
  • 1oz Relaxing Fragrance Oil
  • .3oz Iridescent Glitter
  • 1/2 Hydrated Chrome Green Color Block
  • Aluminum Spray Bottle
  • Silicone Soap Mold
  • Finished Labels (on bottom of box)
The only items you need from home are a microwave-safe container, a spoon, knife, measuring spoons, paper towels, alcohol, & an optional candy thermometer.

You get 2 lbs of Stephenson Personal Care Melt & Pour Crystal Soap Base in the box. 2 pounds is quite a bit of soap when the average bar is 3-5 oz. Nice.

Unlike hot or cold process soaps, with melt & pour, all you have to do is cut the base, melt it in the microwave or on the stove, and pour it into your mold. Your soap will be done in 4-5 hours.

Included in the box is a square silicone soap mold. It holds 1 pound of melted soap. You have enough soap base to make two batches for this project.

This project is a bit time consuming, but definitely not difficult.

The supplies included are just about everything you need.

Contents
Included is a block of green coloring which is the only thing you need to make the ombre effect. You'll add a little at a time to the melted soap, adding it layer by layer into the mold. The aluminum bottle included is for lightly spraying each layer with alcohol. From experience, I recommend 91% instead of the usual 70% that is most common.

The box contains a large bottle of fragrance. The bottle doesn't say exactly what's in the bottle, but it smells nice. I would have like to have ingredients on the bottle or in the instructions. It just says "relaxing'.  You get a pipette for measuring the fragrance. You also get a package of cosmetic grade glitter in case you'd like your mermaid soap sparkly.

The last item in the box, on the bottum underneath are peinted labels for you to use on your soap. It's a real nice touch!

We can't wait to do this project! I'm sure my daughter will be asking to do it tomorrow.

Let me tell you a little more about Handmade Beauty Box DIY Delivered.... They also have a blog. On that blog, they have many, many more projects to do. Instructions, videos, ideas, & examples. Plus, on their facebook page, they share links to even more interesting projects.

What we really like about the DIY Delivered boxes is once you do the project, that's not it. You can easily find the ingredients to do more, or, you can switch it up a bit, and do other projects from the basics of what you received in the monthly box. Meaning, the fun doesn't end after the project.
