SumoCrate January 2016 Subscription Box Review

Let me start off my review by saying I'm reviewing the subscription box from an honest, normal consumer's opinion. I'm not reviewing the individual products in the box. I review the box so that you can decide if this is something you'd like to subscribe to. As for the products, if a product stands out, good or bad, I will make a separate review for that product/brand.

SumoCrate is relatively new. Each box contains 8-10 snacks. They include a variety of protein sources, including meat jerkies, nut butters and plant-based snacks.

They have four different crates available now. High Protein, Vegetarian, Gluten Free, & Meats & Jerkies. I get the High Protein.

I LOVE their new info card! It is very informative, and clear. It gives you the protein, fat, carbs, & fiber content of the items in the box.  It also lets you know if the items are vegan, gluen-free, non-GMO, all natural, or organic. Two thumbs up!

The back gives you a little more information, such that 4 of the items contain almonds, 3 contain dates, and 3 contain garlic. It also explains why these are important & good for you.

January's box contained 9 items:
  • 22 Days Protein Bar
  • 22 Days Nutrition Protein Powder
  • Justin's Classic Almond Butter
  • Kay's Naturals Protein Chips
  • Kooee! Jerkey Trail Mix
  • Protings Protein Chips
  • Quest Protein Powder
  • RXBar
  • Wildzora Beef & Veggie Bars
22 Days
The first items in the box are a Protein Bar & Protein Powder from 22 Days. I've never heard of these before, so it will be nice to try something new.

The protein powder is vanilla flavored, non-GMO, & organic with 16g protein.

The bar is a hefty .6oz, Almond Butter Chocolate Chip. It's non-GMO, plant-based, gluten-free, and soy-free.  It pulls in 280 calories, with 16g sugar, and 20g protein.

Justin's & Kay's Naturals
Next comes a packet of Justin's Almond Butter & Kay's Naturals Protein Chips.

The almond butter is yummy. I like these packets because I can take them with me. I've seen them at my local grocer's for a little over $1 each.

The protein chips are chili nacho cheese flavored. I'm not a big chip fan, but since these are high protein & low glycemic, I'll give them a try.
Kooee!
The Jerky Trail Mix is interesting. The package is sealed as 2 compartments. One side holds beef jerky, in the other is apples, nuts, seeds & cacao nibs. You peel open the packaging & they mix together. Hmmm... This would be great thrown in your pack while hiking! It's made with 100% grass-fed beef.

Protings & Quest

Another package of chips. These are zesty nacho, and from Protings. They are made with pea protein, potato flakes, & flaxseed. This isn't your mother's Doritos!  If I keep getting healthy chips, I might change my mind on chip snacking. I've already decided I like Beanitos.

The Quest Protein powder has the best packaging I've ever seen for a protein powder. It looks so yummy. LOL What's odd is there are no actual directions. So, if this was your first time ever having protein powder, you might be a tad confused. I received strawberries & cream. It contains whey protein isolate, micellar casein, & milk protein isolate with no sugar added. Unfortunately the seal on my package came apart, and there was powder everywhere. This is no fault of Sumocrate!
Wildzora & RXBar
The last 2 items are Wildzora & RXBar.

I've received the Wildzora Beef & Veggie bars before, but a different flavor. I still haven't gotten up the gumption to try them yet. Someday before they expire I will.

I have a couple RXBars in my protein bar stash. This one is pumpkin spice flavor. The ingredients are dates, egg whites, nuts, pumkin, & spices. Simple. Sounds yummy!

SumoCrate is a great subscription box for those looking for high-protein snacks. Included are a variety of items to please any pallet. They've curated boxes that span multiple brands, so there is always something new to try. There are quite a few subscription boxes that provide protein bars, powders & snacks, but I have to say that SumoCrate is one of the best ones I've received in that niche, as the others usually also contain supplements & such. As someone who needs to eat protein every few hours, the snacks in this box give me a nice assortment to choose from!

If you are a heavy exerciser, are concerned about your blood sugar, or just want to eat more healthily, SumoCrate would be a good snack box for you to try!
